FIND BOOKS, VIDEOS, AND OTHER LIBRARY MATERIALS

The UM system libraries offer a wealth of resources in the Social Sciences, including current books, journals, newspapers, videos, software, maps, statistical tables, and government documents. To locate library resources:

·  Go to the library web site and click on Library Catalog

·  No username or password necessary.

·  Search for books, videos, or other materials in the UM system libraries.

FIND ARTICLES IN JOURNALS, NEWSPAPERS, OR DOCUMENTS

Go to the library web site and click on "Find an article from a database."

You may enter and scroll down the A-Z list of all library databases, or select the subject "History and Social Science".

When you click on any one of the databases, you will be asked to enter a username and password.  These are the same username and password that you use for entering the campus network (first initial_last name, social or other campus i.d. number).

·  American National Biography provides 18,000 biographies of important Americans in history and to the present.

·  FindLaw provides court forms and links to state, federal, and international law.

·  History Resource Center is a "one stop shop" of reference book, journal article, primary source, and Internet links covering persons and events in U.S. history.

·  JSTOR provides historical information from journals across the social sciences.

·  LegalTrac offers full-text articles from all major law reviews, law journals, specialty law and bar association journals and legal newspapers.

·  Montana: The Magazine of Western History provides a searchable online index of article citations. Carson Library carries the magazine from 1951-present.

·  New York Times & New York Times Historical Online is one of the world's leading newspapers. Retrieve full-text articles from current and historical papers.

·  PsycARTICLES is the full-text database of the journals of the American Psychological Association.

·  Wilson Social Science Full-Text gives full-text and citations/abstracts to journal articles across the social sciences. Select "Social Science" as Subject Area.

Two full-text periodical databases that include college-level journals in the social sciences are:

·  Expanded Academic ASAP.
    After entering the database, select Expanded Academic ASAP from the Gale Group database menu.
    On the menu see also other Gale Group databases legal, business, health, and student/children's information.

FIND COURSE RESERVES MATERIALS

Select one of three options for searching and using Course Reserves:

·  Go to the library web site and click on Library Catalog .

·  Click on  Course Reserves  to search for books, videos, or other materials that your instructor has put on reserve for your class.

·  Retrieve reserved materials at the  Circulation Desk .

·  Go to the library web site and click on  E-Res  , then "Electronic Reserves and Course Materials" . Next,  select your instructor's name .

·  The default  password for E-Res  is your instructor's last name in lower case letters. Ask your instructor if there are reserves on E-Res.

·  E-Res articles open in Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is available on all campus computers.

·  Go to the library Circulation Desk and ask  for the reserves under the instructor name and course.

·  Go to the library web site and sign up for the  ILLiad  online request and loan service.

·  If off-campus, go to your local college, school, or public library and ask for interlibrary loan assistance.
